CLARABELL (Howdy Doody) marionette

This beautiful old find is a 14" composition marionette of Howdy Doody's pal, Clarabell.  He wears a red and white striped cloth clown costume, a blue and white striped cloth neckerchief, and red shoes.  This item is in remarkably nice condition (NM or NM+), particularly for its age, and it comes with its original box.  The box has beautiful graphics on the top and front.  The box has edge wear but is intact and in fairly nice condition overall, probably meriting a VG condition grading.  Clarabell was manufactured by Peter Puppet Playthings sometime during the 1950s, along with Howdy Doody, Flub-a-Dub, and Princess Summer Fall Winter Spring counterparts.

CLARABELL (Howdy Doody) flocked bank

This is a 9" lightweight plastic bank of Clarabell the Clown, from the 1950s television program Howdy Doody.  It was sold during the 1970s as part of a set that also included Mister Bluster and Howdy Doody himself.  Clarabell is covered with a thin layer of flocking and has glued-on paper decal eyes.  He waves with his raised left hand and holds a musical concertina in his right hand, by his stomach.  The coin slot is located on the black base, just behind Clarabell's feet and the original coin trap has not been cut open at all.  This item is free of damage and has only the slightest traces of wear.  It is in NM to NM+ condition and is definitely one of the nicest examples of this particular item that we have seen.  It was manufactured by Straco--that is, the F.J. Strauss Company.
